Week 0- October 2-5
Before We Begin
Mon/Tues: Activity: First Show book trailer. Then complete the activity: What would you want with you on a deserted Island? Click on the image below; watch the video and discuss the questions. On a sticky note each student writes 3 things they would need or WANT on a deserted island. Put notes on a poster.
Wed/Thurs: Activity: What do you know about robots?
Please review the sites and videos below. Have students discuss what they know about robots and what they want to know. They can add the information to their coloring page. I would let the work on coloring while you watch the videos.
TEACHERS will use Jamboard to write 3 THINGS the group learned about robots-and one question they have! Make sure you add your class name- ex. Hovie/Moreno. The link for jamboard is below.

Wed/Thurs: Research animals from the book and find out more about them! Use this page ANIMAL RESEARCH to click on each animal picture. Then as a whole group fill in the animal chart and tell us Why did the author choose that name for the animal?

Each student creates a robot drawing. They must design the robot and tell us what they would like their robot to do. Each class will vote on one winner. The whole school will vote on a winner from 4th gr and 5th gr.
Extra activities:
THE FLIER: Students will get in groups of 2. Each student will make a paper airplane. They will record their data on this chart and compare with another group. We will need paper for the airplanes and each group will need a copy of the chart.
